Urology is a surgical specialty that focuses on the kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra and the male reproductive
organs which consist of the testes, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate and penis. The urinary and
reproductive systems in women and men are close together and disorders of one will often affect the other. Urology combines
medical management (i.e. non-surgical) problems such as urinary tract infections and surgical problems such as congenital
abnormalities and surgical management of cancers. Urology is closely related to and will often overlap with other specialties
such as oncology, nephrology, gynecology, andrology, proctology, dermatology and endocrinology.
Urology Northwest is
pleased to offer a wide variety of services. We place an emphasis on three main components of the specialty.
URINARY
HEALTH - urinary incontinence or involuntary leakage of urine is a common problem in both women and men. Reproductive
and urinary organs are located in close proximity and are very complex systems. This can lead to urinary health problems
like stress incontinence, urgency, frequency or urge incontinence which is frequently referred to as Overactive Bladder.
Urinary incontinence issues can lead to problems with a women's sexual health, socialization, professional life and self esteem.
It is also not unusual for a person to have stool incontinence in conjunction with urinary incontinence. Other health
concerns that fall into this category include; voiding dysfunctions caused by Multiple Sclerosis or neurogenic bladder, recurrent
UTIs, kidney stones, and kidney cancer. Various tools and treatment options are discussed in more detail on the Urinary Health page.
PELVIC HEALTH-This area of focus encompasses conditions and treatment of prostate problems
in men such as; Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), prostate cancer, prostatitis
and testicular cancer; in women such problems as pelvic pain or interstitial cystitis, prolapsed bladder, rectum and
vagina and in both sexes, bladder cancer and weak pelvic floor muscles. Various diagnostic and treatment options are
discussed in more detail on the Pelvic Health page.
SEXUAL HEALTH-many urological conditions can impact a person's ability to participate in
and enjoy a healthy sex life. Conditions such as prostate cancer, interstitial cystitis, painful bladder as well as
non-urological cancers such as breast and ovarian cancer can create sexual health issues like decreased libido, premature
ejaculation and dyspareunia (painful intercourse). Urology Northwest is committed to helping patients regain a healthy
enjoyable sex life. Urology Northwest also provides some elective sexual health services such as vasectomies and vasectomy
reversals. More information about sexual health can be found on the Sexual Health page.
COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE - The mission of Urology Northwest, PS is to serve women and men
who want to remain active and youthful by empowering them to regain control over their urinary, pelvic and sexual health.
We recognize that diet, lifestyle, and body composition play an important role in patients' health and that a vast majority

conjunction with therapies we prescribe and utilize. We are committed to finding the treatment plan best suited for
each individual patient and believe that by offering access to naturopathic medicine and acupuncture, we are providing
the most progressive and holistic approach to patient care while ensuring the safest and most satisfactory outcome for our
