Happy New Year!
January 6, 2014 • A note to all our patients.
We hope that 2014 brings you good health and wellness.
We’re honored you have chosen Urology Northwest as your urological provider. We look forward to being your healthcare partner.
2014 has brought a variety of changes to healthcare. The government changes require insurance companies to provide basic coverage to individuals and families that previously did not have healthcare benefits available to them. However, with this change, insurance companies took the opportunity to review/revise all their plans including those offered by employers. The changes appear to benefit insurance companies by moving more costs to the consumer (patient). The changes we are seeing include:
- Increased deductibles ($500.00 –$5,000.00 or higher). This is considered your 1st dollar responsibility. This amount must be met before your insurance starts paying.
- Increased copays- copays are required under your insurance contract at each office visit and are not included in the deductible amount.
- Increased co-insurance (the amount the patient is responsible for after insurance – 20% to 60%)
- Decreased coverage – limits on # of visits, etc
Urology Northwest policy is to request a deposit towards each office visit, until your plan deductible has been satisfied. New patients and established patients are asked to be prepared to pay $230.00 at time of service for their 1st appointment in 2014. A $150.00 deposit will be requested for follow up appointments until we’re notified by the insurance company that the deductible has been met.
If you have questions about your financial responsibilities under your insurance plan please contact your insurance company or your employer.
Urology Northwest has received InTone Specialist Certification in order to offer an effective treatment option to treat female urinary incontinence.
Stress incontinence can occur when lifting, sneezing, coughing, laughing or exercising. Urge incontinence is the unwanted and sudden need to urinate. Both can be caused or exacerbated by childbirth, obesity, excessive exercise, lack of exercise, age or trauma.
According to the National Association for Continence, up to 30 million women in America have experienced bladder leakage issues. About one in four new mothers experience “leaking” following normal delivery, and about one in six following cesarean section.
InTone, from InControl Medical, is a combination therapy device designed to stop urinary incontinence in females who have been diagnosed with stress, urge, or mixed incontinence. InControl Medical is convinced InTone will significantly improve bladder leakage for those who have followed the recommended protocol with medical supervision and will refund the cost of the device minus a small disposal fee if the patient’s condition does not improve. InControl Medical is the only company in this field with the confidence to guarantee its product.

A article in the November 3rd issue of The Seattle Times entitled Why you might pay twice for one visit to doctor discusses the issue of hospital facility fees that have surprised some patients after a doctor visit.
We wanted to take a moment to make sure you understand what happens when you visit a provider at Urology Northwest.
Urology Northwest is a physician-owned clinic. Our owners are Karny Jacoby, MD, James Downey, MD and Susan Walters, MD. The physician owners, management and staff are committed to providing quality care and service to our patients at the lowest possible cost. Unlike physician groups owned or managed by a hospital system, we do not charge a facility fee, even though services, supplies and equipment used are the same or better as those at facilities who do.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact Candy Chapman, CMPE, Administrator at 425-275-5547.

The physicians at Urology Northwest and their professional organization the American Urological Association are concerned that recent reports about prostate specific antigen (PSA) testing may present conflicting information to patients about the value of this critical prostate-cancer screening test.
